About Nickel West
Nickel West is fully integrated mine-to market business. With a culture rich with technical know-how, high efficiency and focused on innovation, Nickel West employs over 2,500 people from five operations across Western Australia comprising of nickel underground and open-cut mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery. Nickel West also has plans to expand its operations with new mines in the northern Goldfields. We have a deep commitment to sustainability and have recently opened Australia’s first nickel sulphate plant in Kwinana, providing key materials for EV batteries.
About the Role
We currently have a full time opportunity to join NiW Health, Safety and Environment team as an Environment Specialist – Governance and Systems Operations. The Environment Specialist supports the NiW environment governance and compliance systems, while also supporting site personnel with environmental risk assessments, event quality and investigations, field leaderships and adherence to compliance.
This opportunity is well suited to someone who has attention to detail and is able to able to bring people together to implement change.
This role is offered on a 5:2 roster reporting directly to the Environment Manager. Flexible work options will be considered.
In this role you will:
- Support conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Our Requirements Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations;
- Support the implementation of the Environment Management System;
- Support effective controls to manage environmental risks;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant stakeholders;
- Support the delivery of environmental reports as required by regulatory agencies;
- Support the availability of complete and accurate environment data to enable risk owner decision making and reporting requirements both internal and external;
- Support supervision of contractors involved in the safe and productive execution of HSE managed work;
- Deliver environmental legal, requirements, GLD compliance, and risk management in line with key accountabilities, as well as verification and auditing requirements; and
- Champion the implementation of BOS principles and routines within the Environment Team.
About You
To be successful in this role you will be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail will also be a vital attribute.
You will also have:
- Tertiary Qualifications in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, coupled with;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively towards a common goal
- Effective planning, prioritisation and time management capabilities
- Good communication, interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills
- Sound GIS and 1SAP capabilities will also be highly regarded.
