Verterra is looking for a professional Environmental Consultant to join our team.
Your duties will include:
- Propose solutions to address negative environmental impacts
- Advising on, implementing and evaluating the impact of revegetation, reforestation and soil restoration projects (e.g. habitat and carbon offsets)
- Studying the effects of factors, such as terrain, altitude, climatic and environmental change, sources of nutrition and the impacts of humans, on animal and plant life
- Evaluating habitat and wildlife needs, and formulating short- and long-term management goals and objectives
- Studying and analysing vegetation ecology, mineral, soil and water samples
- Developing conservation and management policies for biological resources, such as forests, and establishing standards and developing approaches for the control of pollution and the rehabilitation of areas disturbed by activities such as mining, timber felling and over-grazing
- Participating in management planning by providing environmental information and making inventories of plants, animals and items of cultural and heritage significance
- Undertaking literature reviews, data analysis and preparing technical reports for clients.
The successful applicant will need:
· Bachelor degree in Environmental Science
· 2+ years of demonstrated relevant work experience in the area
· Preferably experience in carbon markets and forest science
· High level of attention to detail with excellent organisational skills
· Ability to learn and work across multiple software packages (including GIS and FullCAM)
· Strong communication skills and ability to give clear and direct instructions
· Strong written communication and report writing skills an imperative
· An enthusiastic, approachable and positive manner
· Proven ability to work effectively within a small team environment and culture where flexibility is essential.
