A permanent, full-time employment opportunity based in Western Australia, reporting to the Regional EHS Partner – Western Region APAC (WA, VIC, TAS, SA, NT). You will be responsible for providing effective Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) managerial and technical support to Sims facilities across the region, and be a part of a dynamic and collaborative team of EHS professionals.

You will champion a care-based safety culture and ensure Sims remains a responsible corporate citizen in environmental matters, supporting the timely delivery of EHS strategies and initiatives in line with our organizational goals. 

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Coach operations in effectively implementing and using our EHS management systems and act as an escalation point for complex matters.
  • Conduct analyses from EHS data to facilitate decision-making at a management level. 
  • Work with operations on the effective use of EHS tools such as Risk Assessments and Critical Control Verifications.
  • Participate in applicable internal and external audits and guide corrective actions.
  • Lead site-specific / technical training development and implementation where needed.
  • Support the investigation of significant EHS events or incidents and identify and communicate corrective actions/learnings.
  • Provide insight on process hazards, and risk ratings on incidents, Safe Work Procedures, and Job Safety Environment Analysis 
  • Support the injury management, workers' compensation and return to work process.

Essential Criteria:

  • A tertiary qualification in Environment, Health & Safety or equivalent. 
  • Experience in a high-hazard industrial environment, having site-wide responsibility for safety and health issues
  • Experience working/implementing workplace health, safety, and environment management systems.
  • Leadership and training experience relating to job performance and Safety on the job.
  • Driver’s license and ability to travel within the Western Australian region.

Desirable criteria:

  • Technical and/or professional certifications such as Industrial Hygiene, Worker's Compensation management.
