The Role
The Environmental Health Officer is responsible for delivering a range of environmental and public health services within Waverley Council to protect and enhance public safety, health and the environment to meet legislation obligations and the needs of our community. They will conduct routine inspections of regulatory premises (food businesses, beauty salons, etc.) and contribute to initiatives to improve public health programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Case manage large and varied work loads concurrently across multiple Environmental Health disciplines and effectively risk assess/manage competing priorities and action accordingly.
- Conduct complex investigations of Environmental Health matters pursuant to the provisions of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Food Act, Public Health Act, Local Government Act, and EP&A Act and prepare and institute legal action where required.
- Keep abreast of relevant legislation and industry practice to allow the institution of proactive strategies and enforcement action to address risks, think critically to problem solve as well as inform decision making to improve health outcomes for residents and visitors to Waverley.
- Conduct routine inspections of regulatory premises (food businesses, beauty salons, skin penetration etc.) and contribute to initatives to improve public health programs.
- Provide accurate public health and technical advise to internal and external stakeholders including business owners, consultants, community members, legal representatives and work collaboratively with other areas of Council particularly Planning, Building Compliance and Rangers.
About You
To be successful you will have a Bachelor of Science – Environmental Health or equivalent and will have the ability to conduct complex investigations, including gathering evidence, collecting samples, use of environmental monitoring equipment, conducting interviews and preparing documentations. You will have the ability to multitask, work independently and achieve targets and timeframes.
