Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Environmental Superintendent to join our Thunderbox Operations on an 8:6 roster. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the site environmental team, ensuring all environmental legal obligations are met, environmental risks are managed, and progressive environmental performance is promoted. Additionally, this role will also implement systems and processes to comply with Norther Star's Environmental Management Systems.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Display a clear commitment to responsible environmental management, safety and health, and seek to eliminate or control the risks of injury and/or damage to equipment.

  • Operate in accordance with and comply the Company's Safety and Health Policy, Environmental Policy and Stakeholder Policy and with all site policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Proactive involvement with continuous OHS improvement processes.

  • Active participation in all communication and awareness systems.

  • Lead, develop and utilise team members by establishing clear expectations

  • Ensuring environmental obligations and risks are identified and effectively managed

  • Maintaining and implementing effective Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and driving continuous improvement

  • Provide timely professional and technical advice in relation to effective management of the environment

  • Coordinating the identification, scoping and coordination of environmental projects and investigations

  • Managing the site team in obtaining approvals for new projects and managing existing approvals

  • Facilitating statutory notifications, reporting and environmental incident investigations

  • Completion of internal and external environmental reporting

  • Identify risks and opportunities, develop action plans, and deliver on commitments

  • Perform due diligence audits so that operations are environmental legally compliant and changes to law are implemented during operational, decommissioning and closure phases

  • Stakeholder management and knowledge sharing through initiating and rolling out of environmental awareness campaigns as well as communicating best practices, technologies and equipment identified

  • Being a point of contact for the local community, landholders and Government agencies

Required skills and experience:

  • Degree majoring in an Environment related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution and around 15 years relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of WA environmental regulations.

  • Experience in environmental management system development and maintenance, including ISO14001.

  • Mine site experience

  • Experience in environmental auditing and compliance

  • Understanding of environmental impacts associated with a mining and processing operation.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

  • Computer literacy - Microsoft Office.

  • Current "C" Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
