Would you like to work with racehorses?

Skillinvest has partnered with Racing Victoria to recruit Stable Hands for the thoroughbred racing industry.

There are full-time or part-time entry-level roles available now throughout Victoria with a focus in the Mornington Peninsula area.

As a Stable Hand, you will:

• ensure horses are brushed, groomed, and fed
• exercise horses by riding, walking, swimming and leading
• prepare and store bedding clean stables and training equipment
• participate in pre-race preparation, including washing and drying horses before attending race meetings
• undertake post-race procedures.

A paid, pre-employment induction will give you an understanding of the day-to-day operation within a racing stable.

Once successfully placed in local stables, you will undertake an industry program. This program provides first-hand knowledge and exposure to the job while you complete the licensing requirements for stable employees via a traineeship in either a Certificate II or III Racing qualification.

Successful candidates will have a workplace buddy for up to 12 weeks and be provided with full pre- and post-placement support by an allocated industry mentor for the first 12 months.

To be successful, you will be:

• keen to work within the horse racing industry
• confident to work with horses unsupervised
• a good communicator able to work in a team and independently
• able to work early mornings.
• Knowledge, skills and experience of racehorses including feeding, handling and preparation is desired but not essential.
