Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Ethics Committee provides ethical review of human research in the field of oncology. The Human Research Ethics & Governance office manages both the ethical and governance review and approval processes. The office supports the researchers to navigate the ethical and governance review system.
The Ethics & Governance Officer supports the Human Research Ethics & Governance office in all duties associated with the ethical and governance review, approval and monitoring of research projects by: managing ethics and governance submissions and associated correspondence/communication; assisting in providing executive support to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Ethics Committee and its sub-committees; providing advice and guidance to researchers; and updating required database/s and maintaining data integrity.
- This is a fulltime ongoing role, 80 hours per fortnight with a fortnightly Accrued Day Off (ADO)
- The position reports to Dr Dianne Snowden, Manager, Human Research Ethics & Governance
Essential Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in health care, science, information management or a related discipline
- Demonstrated high level of problem solving skills
- Integrity, sound judgment and respect for confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail, particularly in relation to administrative and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to grow with the demands of the position
- Desirable Requirements:
- Previous work experience in human research ethics and governance
- Knowledge of the medical or public health research setting
- Working knowledge of medical and scientific terminology
- An understanding of relevant policy and other guidelines issued by NHMRC and other research organisations, including familiarity with the National Health and Medical Research Council’s ‘National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research’
