Events Manager (14-month contract)

Are you an accomplished events professional with a passion for sports and a track record for creating unforgettable experiences? The Adelaide Football Club is looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Events Manager to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring our events are not only memorable but also exceed the expectations of our members, supporters, sponsors, and the broader community.

About the Role:

Reporting to the General Manager Commercial, the Events Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of all club-related events. You will have the exciting responsibility of creating world-class events, from match days to Club Champion awards, that leave a lasting impression. This role includes managing the Events team with 2 direct reports, a Senior Events Executive and an Event Coordinator. 

This is a full-time, fixed-term position offered up to a 14-month contract as part of a parental leave backfill, including a handover period to set you up for success in the role.

Key Responsibilities include:
Match Day Operations:

  • Coordinate with internal club stakeholders, venues, AFL, and external agencies to ensure seamless match day activations.
  • Collaborate with AFC Partner Executives to plan and implement home match sponsor activities.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager to develop branding and communication materials for events and match days.
  • Ensure delivery of world-class hospitality experiences at the Adelaide Oval.

Club Events:

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and coordination of key club events (e.g., Season Launch, Gala Auctions, AFL & AFLW Club Champion, Coterie events).
  • Assist other AFC departments in planning and executing their specific functions and events.
  • Source entertainment and manage travel and accommodation for guests and entertainers as needed.

Finance:

  • Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring accurate tracking, documentation, and reporting of all expenses.
  • Implement cost-saving strategies while maintaining high-quality event standards.
  • Design and implement revenue-increasing strategies for profit-oriented events.
  • Liaise and negotiate with service providers to secure the best commercial positions.

Customers:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with venue and service providers.
  • Attend all functions and events to oversee execution and ensure high standards.
     

The candidate:
We are looking for someone with:

  • Tertiary qualification (or equivalent professional experience) in events, sports management, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in large-scale event management.
  • Experience in a similar role, managing major Events with live interaction polls or vote counts.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Proven relationship management and collaboration abilities.
  • Experience in budget management and achieving maximum returns on profit-oriented events.
  • Passion for sports and a commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for fans and supporters.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions.
  • Ability to liaise with cross-functional stakeholders of all levels.
