About the role 

The Evergreen Editor will work closely with the Head of Content and editorial team to execute Australian Traveller Media’s SEO content strategy across its websites, australiantraveller.com and internationaltraveller.com, to drive traffic growth and reader engagement.

Key duties include: 

  • Execute our SEO content strategy - work with the Head of Content to conduct keyword research, content curation and pruning, publish destination-focused evergreen content, maintain onsite and offsite SEO best practice.
  • Brief and commission two destinations a week – work with Head of Content to maintain a bench of trusted freelance travel writers to deliver evergreen content across two destinations a week to ensure output and targets are being achieved.
  • Write and/or edit and publish commissioned content – publish a minimum of three evergreen articles a day and implement systems that allow for the constant monitoring and updating of published evergreen content.
  • Maintain a standard of excellence, accuracy and engaging storytelling in all content you write and publish.
  • Technical SEO tasks – work with the website developer and editorial team to test and complete technical tasks related to SEO performance of website/s as needed.
  • SEO analysis of onsite performance and offsite trends to further optimise content for Google search (Google Search Console and SEMrush or other).
  • Reporting – weekly monitoring and monthly performance reports, data analysis and identifying key areas for content that has dropped and executing plans to update content. (Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics) 
  • Staying on top of evolving SEO best practices and algorithm updates and keeping our SEO Content Playbook up to date.

About you 

A digital expert with a proven track record in growing online audiences, you are highly organised, analytical and able to take a test and learn approach to creating content that connects with readers. You are a talented, accurate and engaging writer and editor with a solid understanding of how to apply your editorial expertise to write and commission quality evergreen content that is underpinned by SEO best practices.

Skills 

  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent understanding of SEO best practice and guidelines
  • Basic Adobe Creative Suite skills, especially Photoshop and InDesign
  • A good eye for strong imagery that helps tell a story
  • Google Analytics GA4 (Adobe Analytics experience would be looked upon favourably)
  • Experience using a Content Management System (WordPress preferred)

Experience 

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a digital editorial role
  • Published portfolio of written work
  • A proven track record of growing digital audiences
  • Editing and subbing experience
  • Commissioning content and writing briefs
  • SEO best practice implementation
  • Experience using third-party SEO tools

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor of Communication or equivalent journalism or media degree 
  • An SEO qualification or training certificate would be an advantage
