About the business

Brain Injury SA (BISA) has been established for over 30 years, assisting people to embrace life after brain injury.

We are a ‘not for profit’ organisation investing funds back into the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) community. BISA has multiple services available for the ABI community including REWIRE, Advocacy, NDIS appeals and Community Access. 

REWIRE is an interdisciplinary team consisting of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Psychologists / counsellors, Developmental Educators, Allied Health Assistants, and a Dietitian.

About the role

We have a Part-time opportunity available, for an enthusiastic Exercise Physiologist who enjoys working with clients with various neurological conditions in fun and creative ways. As a growing and dynamic organisation, we seek to fill this role with someone who thrives within an inter-disciplinary team, has ideas to share, enjoys the challenge of diversity and has a passion to work with adults who have an ABI. 

Based in our Northern Rewire hub, this role would be the introduction of Exercise Physiology to our therapy service here at Brain Injury SA. The role includes managing a caseload with some complex presentations whilst also establishing the role of Exercise Physiology within our growing Interdisciplinary Therapy team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to bring their ideas to help establish an EP service, whilst also wanting to work within a cohesive interdisciplinary team. We are an organisation working with the multiple facets of brain injury and other neurological conditions – road trauma, sporting accidents, tumours, strokes, disease etc. and as a result our services deliver to a group of people and their families that is very diverse in age and need. We provide services under a variety of funding streams. (NDIS, LSA, RTWSA).

Promoting growth in clinical skills and career progression is equally important to us, with REWIRE therapists having access to individual PD budgets and regular clinical supervision alongside in-services and presentations from external professionals guided by the team as a whole. 

Core responsibilities

  • Establishing Exercise Physiology services where indicated, in response to identified needs of clientele group. 
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ physical fitness, health status, and medical history to develop tailored exercise plans.
  • Implement exercise programs that are safe, effective, and appropriate for clients’ with a Brain Injury.
  • Supervise and monitor clients’ progress during exercise sessions, providing guidance, feedback, and motivation to ensure adherence to prescribed protocols.
  • Create Exercise groups based on client need and individual goals, whilst following relevant policies and procedures 
  • Work within an Interdisciplinary rehabilitation model to ensure effective collaboration, open communication, shared understanding & decision making and interdisciplinary goal setting. 
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of clients’ assessments, exercise plans, and progress reports.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in clinical exercise physiology and apply this knowledge to client care.
  • Supporting junior therapists and Exercise Physiology students in their clinical skill development and understanding of neurological presentations 
  • Implementing innovative clinical practices in line with BISA's strategic plan
  • Ensuring standards, efficiency and effectiveness are maintained in all services provided

The successful applicant will have: 

  • Recognised qualification within the Exercise Physiology profession and be eligible for accredited membership of the Exercise and Sports Science Australia Association.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Familiarity with exercise testing and prescription.
  • A commitment to providing client-centred care and continuous service improvement.
  • Efficient time and caseload management skills
  • A strong attitude to new learning and maintaining own understanding of evidence-based practice across clinical scope 
  • Skill in clinical assessment and treatment relative to neurological conditions 
  • Desire to be part of a passionate and empathetic organisation, making a difference to people living with ABI
