Randstad Defence is proud to support and partner with a variety of organisations within the Defence sector including Government, Primes, SME's and specialist Defence contractors across Australia.

One of our valued clients within the defence industry is seeking an experienced Explosives Ordnance Engineer to be responsible for the design, development, test and evaluation and verification/validation of integration of Explosive Ordnance. Ideally we require an engineer with detailed knowledge (and demonstrated experience) in Defence EO technical regulatory frameworks, government decision-making processes, and the ADF's mission and requirements.

This is a permanent full time opportunity based in Melbourne.

About the Role

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provision of EO engineering Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support to the project Weapons Engineer and APCP Project Manager;
  • The planning, design, conduct and reporting on EO-to-platform integration activities (e.g. Safety and Suitability for Service assessments);
  • Provision of engineering input into, and review of, weapon systems-related engineering tasks where appropriate;
  • Contribution to systems engineering activities including requirements analysis and management, system safety, configuration audits, and verification and validation activities;
  • Evaluation of delivered materiel against customer requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, providing recommendations and contributing to the implementation of actions;
  • Support of risk analysis through provision of Subject Matter Expertise in the area of Explosive Ordnance engineering, to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored and mitigated;
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, actively participate in teamwork and motivate and mentor developing engineers;

About you

Ideally you will have:

  • Professional experience in Explosive Ordnance Engineering activities, desirable in the defence industry delivering complex large-scale programs.
  • Technical skills: Strong knowledge of Design, conduct and reporting of Safety and Suitability for Service assessments and testing in accordance with STANAG 4761 (alternatively STANAG 4224) and AAS3P-20;certification of Explosive Ordnance and/or weapon systems; methodologies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge with military standards and regulations related to vehicle development is desirable.
  • Development of trial documentation (e.g. Trial Plans/Instructions);
  • Development of EO Certification documentation (e.g. Design Assessment reports);
  • Conduct of Ammunition to Platform integration / STANAG 4517;
  • Determination of Ballistic Data for Fire Control Systems (STANAG 4144 / AOP-65);
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to effectively manage relationships and positively resolve disputes with internal/external stakeholders.
  • A tertiary qualification in an Engineering discipline
  • Explosive Ordnance (e.g. MSc Explosive Ordnance Engineering) (desirable)
  • Chartered Professional engineer (desirable).
