We are actively seeking Expressions of Interest from local and skilled Deckhands, who possess a positive attitude and a good work ethic, with to be considered for casual opportunities across our South Australian towage operations including Port Adelaide and Port Pirie.

Due to the nature of the position being required to potentially relief at short notice, preference will be given to candidates who reside within two hours of either of the operations.

What You Can Look Forward To

Svitzer is aiming to reduce the CO2 intensity of its entire fleet by 50% by 2030. This will pave the way for fully carbon neutral operations just ten years' later in 2040. It is an exciting time to join Svitzer, striving together towards a decarbonised future.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Port Manager and the Tug Master onboard the vessel, this position offers you the opportunity to perform deck and general-purpose duties relating to towage on our vessels in the port. Your key responsibilities in this position will include:

  • General maintenance of vessels, equipment, firefighting and environmental protection equipment and relevant store-based facilities

  • Handling of stores and equipment

  • Compliance with policies and procedures authorised by Svitzer and consistent with statutory obligations including quality assurance and ISM procedures

  • Ensuring day to day compliance with relevant environmental regulations

  • Participating in operational improvement exercises as required and liaise with Svitzer management regarding the improvement of operational procedures

What You Will Need To Succeed

To thrive in this position, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum General Purpose Hand NC Certificate of Competency or higher, along with certification in Provide First Aid and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • A current AMSA Medical applicable to your Certificate of Competency

  • A valid MSIC or ‘Job Ready’ MSIC Application (or proof of ability to obtain)

  • A genuine interest in working on tugs, and a strong desire to develop your skills and knowledge within this field

  • A willingness to work across various operations and vessels

  • Show motivation towards maintaining safe workplace practices and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and procedures at all times

  • A collaborative spirit, with the ability to work effectively within a team and foster strong relationships with external clients

  • Proven capacity to perform under pressure, particularly during emergency scenarios

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear and concise interaction with team members, supervisors, and external stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in problem-solving and fault-finding, coupled with a proactive approach to addressing challenges

  • The right to live and work in Australia
