About the Role

The Family Link Worker role is a new and innovative role that is an integral part of Our Way Home (Out of Home care). The Family Link Worker is responsible for building connections with the child, identified as part of Our Way Home, their immediate and/or extended family, the child’s Parkerville Therapeutic Team Leader and their Dept of Communities Case worker.

The FLW is responsible for the creation of and facilitation of the child’s Bridge Spaces. They use innovative methods to ensure that each child has ongoing and positive connections with important family and community members. They have an understanding that children are best placed with safe family and focus their work on a reunification/ shared care model.

This will be offered on a fixed term basis at our Midland location. This role can be full time, or part-time, dependent upon successful candidate’s availability. Please note that this role is providing Parental Leave cover.

As a Family Link Worker, your duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Work directly with children, their families, Parkerville Care Staff and the Care Team, for children who have been identified as part of Our Way Home.
  • Build rapport and trusting relationships with the child’s immediate and extended family and other’s the child deems part of their circle.
  • Ensure each child who is part of Our Way Home has a Bridge Space established and a connection plan in place
  • Use knowledge of ecological systems theory, impacts of developmental trauma, strengths-based theory, and solution focused theory to work with and build trusting relationships with the child’s immediate and extended family.
  • Maintain reports, statistical reports, and other required documents in accordance with organisational obligations, policies and processes.

In order to be successful for this role, the applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in Social Work or a relevant discipline or extensive experience working within a community setting.
  • Significant expertise and experience in out-of-home care, trauma-informed practice and working in diverse cultural settings.
  • Ability to communicate well to a diverse range of people including children and young people, their families, communities, and other stakeholders involved in the care of the child.
  • Ability to form trusting relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders from within a child ecological system.
  • Skills in report writing, group facilitation with a range of stakeholders.
