About the role
We currently have a number of roles available within our Family Support Worker team.
These are casual positions which will see you working with families to strengthen their relationships through fostering safe, positive interactions between children and their parents.
These positions can be located at our Fremantle, Midland, Gosnells or Mandurah locations. Flexibility to work across more than one location is preferrable.
A commitment to working one Saturday shift per week is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and facilitate engaging sessions that promote family bonding and positive interactions
- Establish rapport with families and create a safe and welcoming environment
- Collaboratively identify the family challenges, strengths, and goals.
- Provide support and guidance to families navigating the legal system
- Provide supervision for changeover, contact services or weekend visits
- Conduct assessment interviews and corresponding reports
Skills, experience, and qualifications
This is a challenging yet rewarding role requiring high levels professionalism, resilience and passion for helping others. Applicants working towards undergraduate qualifications in psychology, youth work and social work will be well suited for this role.
To be successful in the Family Support Worker role we are looking for the following skills, qualifications and attributes:
- Ability to engage with young people, families and children with empathy and warmth.
- Demonstrated skills/understanding of risk and needs assessments.
- Knowledge of child development, child protection or family violence issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to judge situations and know when escalation is necessary
- An understanding and experience (preferable) working with sensitive and confidential information
- Demonstrated ability to respond to crisis situations.
- Previous experience in a similar role (preferable)
