JOB DESCRIPTION

About the role
In this newly created role, you will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Family Violence, building the capacity of staff within the City's Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service, with the aim of improving outcomes for families experiencing Family Violence or identified as being at risk of Family Violence.

Work type: Temporary Part Time (4 days per week) - 2 year contract
Classification: Band 6 $90,263 - $97,365 pro rata (plus super)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement clear processes for responding to Family Violence, including documentation of assessments, interventions, safety planning and referrals in client files.
  • Conduct education sessions for Community Child Health to increase staff confidence in identifying and responding to Family Violence, providing secondary consultations to assist in the identification of risk and preparation of appropriate responses.
  • Carry a small, short term, goal based, case load of families who are affected by Family Violence, ensuring continuity with the MCH service through appropriate communication and handover processes.
  • Build sustainable networks with internal and external stakeholders to collaborate on measures to prevent and respond to Family Violence.
  • Provide advice to the Coordinator regarding strategic approaches to reducing Family Violence, including the provision of reports
About you
The ideal candidate for this role will be highly experienced working with Family Violence and have a background in Social Work, Womens Health Services or Community Health Services. You will be highly approachable and adaptable, non judgemental, confident to liaise with a diverse range of people and have the ability to think on your feet when making decisions. You will have high levels of empathy and resilience and have a professional approach to your work.

Essential Experience:

  • An understanding of the complexity of Family Violence and factors that influence parental ability to act protectively for their children and themselves.
  • Knowledge of the Family Violence sector in Victoria, including relevant legal protections and resources for victim survivors, infants and children.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to provide advice, and support to families affected or at risk of being affected by Family Violence
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A degree level qualification in social work or similar with relevant experience working with children and families experiencing Family Violence.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process.
  • Candidates will be required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 to be eligible for this role.
