Broadacre Farming and Cattle Operation, Mungindi
Tonkin Farming is a family owned and operated dryland farming and cattle enterprise with land holdings near Mungindi and Dirranbandi, NSW/Qld. We are seeking keen and passionate farmhands for casual positions and long-term career plans in the grain and cattle industry.
Tonkin Farming produces wheat, barley, chickpeas, faba beans, oats and beef. The ideal candidates would require some prior operational experience across typical broadacre farming activities. Some mechanical ability will be looked on favourably, as will a clear passion to improve and develop your skills. A positive attitude, good work ethic and ability to work as a team, honesty and attention to detail is essential.
Successful applicants will work alongside the owner and other staff to carry out the day-to-day farming operations, with training provided where necessary to competently operate and maintain all the farm machinery. At times, farmhands are required to carry out general cattle handling, fencing, feedlot induction and general feedlot duties.
We have casual and long-term opportunities available for the successful candidate. Accommodation on farm to suit either a single person or young family are available. Power supplied, work utes provided and above award wages paid determined on individual's experience and skills.
Duties Include:
• Operation of all modern broadacre farm machinery.
Eg CASE IH Tractors, Harvesters, and Patriot Sprayer, CAT Challenger Track Tractors, Boss Planting equipment, Weedit Sprayer, Trimble GPS systems
• Semi and/or roadtrain truck driving (HC or MC licence desirable)
• Workshop maintenance and welding
• Understanding and application of precision Ag practices
• Sound mechanical knowledge and
• Understanding of modern farming systems
• Adherence to OH&S protocols and procedures
• Skill in general cattle handling, ideal but not essential
• Knowledge of cattle husbandry, ideal but not essential
• Basic skill level - bikes and side by side driving for mustering.
• Experience in fencing
Requirements:
• Proven experience of dryland broadacre farming
• Chemcert certificate
• Broadacre spraying experience
• HC or MC licence is desirable. Assistance may be available to obtain or upgrade your licence.
• Any tertiary qualifications in Agriculture (advantageous)
• Current open car licence & own vehicle
• Some mechanical ability
• and the drive and passion to learn and improve
Salary Package
• $30-35 hourly rate
