A considerate and supportive family employer seeks an experienced irrigated and dryland individual to join their long-term team.
The RoleA family cropping operation in the Northwest of NSW seeks an experienced farmhand to join their team. The farm operates on 5,500Ha near Wee Waa and manages up to 1,600Ha of irrigated cotton and 3,000Ha of dryland cropping annually.
As part of a team reporting directly to the farm manager and owners, you will be involved in all aspects of the cropping programs. Two-thirds of the current irrigation system is bankless, with plans to increase this percentage in the coming seasons. The farm utilises near-new John Deere (row crops), and Case machinery (broadacre) on a daily basis, so skilled machinery operators with mechanical aptitude and fabrication skills are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should be comfortable with John Deere GPS Autotrac tractors and have an understanding of bed preparation, re-hilling, rolling, planting, cultivating, mulching, and root cutting, preferably with experience in these tasks. A level of agronomic understanding would also be beneficial, along with a solid understanding of broadacre cropping cycles for wheat, chickpeas, and faba beans, as well as the elements required.
Your prospective employers look after their staff, a sentiment supported by the longevity of their team, with the existing team members having been retained long-term. Pleasantly, they have ensured that the Irrigation workload is shared between the team with no irrigation night shift changes required. They are also supportive of their employees’ individual growth, encouraging and supporting opportunities for personal and professional development.
The Offer
The successful candidate will be offered a comfortable large family home along with providing some utilities, including unlimited internet, a phone booster and other elements, along with a credible hourly rate.
Located just half an hour from Wee Waa, you will have access to all basic amenities with the larger centre of Narrabri within an hour's drive. You will have access to a range of sporting, schooling and partner employment opportunities in the welcoming cropping community.
The Ideal Candidate
Machinery operators with previous experience in irrigated and dryland cropping programmes and the following attributes are encouraged to apply:
- Mechanical aptitude and fabrication skills
- Passion and enthusiasm for cropping
- Willingness to learn.
- Chemical accreditation or willingness to obtain.
- Spraying experience (desirable)
- Truck licence or eligibility to obtain (advantageous)
