We are seeking an experienced, motivated and self-driven Farming Manager to join our successful family-owned operations at Blackville. The successful candidate will manage crops from ground preparation to harvesting and picking. You will also be responsible for the supervision of contractors and station hands and work closely with the Manager – Blackville Operations & Strategic Planning. You will have a sound understanding of grain operations and be able to run operations profitably and provide input into the preparation of budgets. You will have a passion for agriculture especially cropping, and preferably experience with no-till cropping, cotton farming and winter/summer crop management.
You will be hard-working, honest, respectful and take pride in keeping machinery, workshops and the whole property neat, tidy and well-presented. You may be required to travel from time to time to the Denman/Walcha areas where our other operations are.
The successful candidate will possess the following core competencies:
- Completion of an accredited farm management course or other similar tertiary course.
- Demonstrated high safety standards for applicant and other employees/contractors.
- Attention to detail and tidiness with farm machinery management, maintained to a very high standard.
- Chemical course accredited (desired).
- Sound knowledge and understanding of John Deere/Fendt GPS products, along with the experience to calibrate and maintain planting equipment.
- Strong work ethic.
- Honesty and Integrity.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- HC license (desired).
About the Employer
Dalara Pastoral Operations (DPO) is a NSW based diversified family agricultural business with operations near Blackville (location of this position), Denman and Walcha, producing high-quality crops, hay and silage as well as Angus/Wagyu X cattle and sheep/lambs.
A broadacre cropping operation at Blackville sees the production of durum and bread wheat, chickpeas, sorghum and cotton. Fodder is grown on an extensive scale at Blackville, alongside winter and summer pasture. DPO houses a modern fleet of John Deere and Fendt tractors as well as Excel winter and summer planters. Smaller, versatile machinery such as smaller tractors, sprayers, loaders, trucks and dozers are also used. We pick our own and others cotton, contract out harvesting and spraying, whilst maintaining storage and grain management with an existing weighbridge and silo complex.
Alongside our cropping operations, DPO runs commercial herds of Angus at Blackville and Walcha which supply the fattening operations at our Denman location. At Blackville and Walcha, we breed F1 Angus/Wagyu X steers and heifers. Our crop and cattle managers work together to ensure a successful, safe and productive business that is prepared to diversify with needs and technology.
The Location
Our Blackville property is located 120km from Tamworth and 65km from Quirindi. There is a primary school in Blackville 7km away and a local bus for other primary and secondary schools operates in the area.
