 FDV Counselling Lead

  • Exciting opportunity to join a specialist family and domestic violence service supporting those in regional, rural and remote WA impacted by family and domestic violence
  • Flexible work practices – Part time/ Full time role (Day/Afternoon shifts available) 
  • Autonomous role, where you can bring your contribution to continuous service improvement, and development and implementation of new programs/initiatives in regional WA
  • Contract until 30 June 2026 with possibility of extension, subject to funding.

Exciting opportunity for a professional, motivated and team-oriented Family and Domestic Violence Senior Practitioner to join our Counselling team. The primary duties of this role are to work with the CEO to oversee the DVassist telephone and webchat support services, and provide telephone and webchat interventions to persons impacted by family and domestic violence living in regional, rural and remote Western Australia. Working within a trauma-informed practice framework, this role will provide support and guidance to a small team of Specialist FDV counsellors, as well as maintaining a small caseload. The role works closely with the CEO to ensure the service meets legislative requirements and maintains best-practice approaches to working with people impacted by domestic and family violence. We are seeking staff who can be flexible and adaptable to support our clients as the service evolves.   

The position is located in Nedlands.

About You (Essential Requirements):

  • Applicants will have relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, counselling, behavioural or social sciences or other appropriate qualification/s AND registration with a professional body
  • Solid experience in the FDV sector, including trauma informed counselling
  • Experience leading teams or managing counselling services is preferred, but we will consider training the right candidate.

Other essential requirements include:

  • Able to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the barriers and complexities that exist for regional, rural and remote WA communities in accessing FDV services
  • Knowledge of the family and domestic violence service ecosystem throughout WA
  • Well-developed knowledge and analysis of the effects, drivers and dynamics of family and domestic violence
  • Minimum two years providing reflective supervision to counsellor and case managers
  • 5 + years delivering trauma-informed responses in a counselling and case management frameworks
  • Community engagement and development experience
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of cultural and social groups, and write reports
  • Sound IT skills and experience working with a variety of databases
  • Current WA Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance or commitment to obtain
  • Right to work in Australia.
