In Perth, Flowbird’s local hardware and software engineers support Perth and regional Western Australia’s current public transport solution. Our solution is going through a major multi-phase upgrade project, and we need two Field Technicians to join our team to work with us to deliver and maintain this solution.

What does a Field Technician do?

Our Field Technicians’ primary responsibilities are focussed on the installation and maintenance of ticketing devices in the field at Rail Stations, Bus Depots and on buses and ferries. Faults happen, so we need you to have skills in:

  • Fault-finding of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment 
  • First level repairs, testing for faults and swapping out devices
  • Replacement of module and component assemblies where applicable
  • Troubleshooting and fault findings 
  • Reading and understanding circuit diagrams
  • Installations and commissioning of new devices
  • Dealing with customers, operators and suppliers

Therefore, we require you to have a trade certificate, diploma, or certification in electronic principals, and have had a minimum of 2 years of experience working with field servicing. We’ll provide you with an overview of our equipment and provide you with tools of trade (Vehicle, Mobile, laptop/tablet) to do the job.

What else do you need for this role?

We’re a small team, so extra skills go a long way to becoming an integral part of our East Perth business. As well as your field electromechanical skills we also need you to:

  • Have competent computer skills; we use spreadsheets, documents, emails, and service now job ticket software to ensure all our work is logged for our customers
  • Be confident in working autonomously and without direct supervision; this means you’ll often be responsible for your own time management and activity prioritisation
  • Be comfortable working in out in the field at Rail Stations or Bus Depots with other Field Technicians or alone;  home base is our East Perth office which has other technical and support staff too, and we all work well together in a respectful and harmonious working environment
  • Be able to work a rotating roster inclusive of weekends and public holidays and up to 12 hours
  • Work safely at all times, follow our written and verbal work instructions and procedures
  • Be physically fit and must be able to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, full functional assessment, Drug and Alcohol screening, and Police Clearance.

    • You’ll report to our Service Manager here
    • As this role is hands-on, we need you working predominantly in the field each day
  • Our APAC customers; are local state government transport authorities, and the public transport operators which run the services
  • Our suppliers and service contractors who play a crucial role in supporting our deliveries
