Financial Capability Worker - Financial Hub Services

Wunan is seeking a full time Financial Capability Worker to join the Financial Hub team in Kununurra. The role will advocate alongside and with Aboriginal people and work with them to improve their financial affairs. Previous knowledge, skills and experience working in this, or an aligned field will be highly regarded. The occupant of this position will have a positive attitude and commitment to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with financial difficulties to speak for themselves and access the resources and support they need to enjoy quality of life. Whilst located in Kununurra, the role will also provide services to surrounding communities including through remote service delivery.

Key Duties

  • Working with individuals and families to improve their financial affairs by increasing client capacity to gain more skills and understanding of this area.
  • Providing workshops on money management and financial literacy
  • Develop and maintain effective external relationships with partner organizations.
  • Refer clients as necessary to other support agencies.
  • Administrative tasks including maintaining comprehensive up to date client documentation and reporting.
  • Documenting wider issues that may require advocacy by senior management.
  • Develop an understanding and awareness of local events and opportunities to further local networks and contacts, and act as an advocate or financial representative on occasions.
  • Attend regional and national events, meetings and training, as required.
  • Being innovative to reach objectives of this role.
  • Develops challenging but achievable goals.
  • Maintains commitment to goals in the face of obstacles and frustrations.
  • Has a strong sense of urgency about solving problems and getting work done.
  • High quality accurate work is completed in an efficient and effective manner.

Requirements of the role

Essential criteria

  • A minimum of one years’ experience supporting clients on a one-to-one basis in a paid or voluntary capacity and be able to demonstrate this.
  • Proven ability to learn and implement new ways of working and to adopt new systems and processes.
  • Good written and verbal skills with the ability to build effective and trusting relationships with people internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with an appropriate level of discretion, confidentiality, tactfulness, and professionalism.
  • Display good judgement and problem-solving ability.
  • Possess an enthusiastic and confident approach with a 'can-do' attitude.
  • Be non-judgmental and empathetic, and able to set personal boundaries.

Desirable selection criteria

  • Previous working experience in Remote Aboriginal Communities.
  • Experience working in community service organisation/s.

Pre-employment requirements:

  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
  • Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license.
