headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers core areas including mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.
Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is the lead agency for headspace Bairnsdale, which is governed by a consortium of local community organisations who provide expertise, support and advice to RAV. The role
Reporting to Centre Manager, your responsibilities will include providing strength-based and culturally safe mentoring to First Nations young people. You will support young people and their families/friends to access mental health treatment, therapeutic interventions, and care coordination, working closely with local community and partner youth and health services. You will also increase community awareness of mental health challenges amongst First Nations young people and communities, through facilitation, organisation and delivery of health promotion activities and community events.
This role is located at our headspace Bairnsdale Centre and is a permanent, part-time position, working three (3) days per week including events.
About you
- Diploma or Certificate IV in youth work, community services, alcohol and drug, mental health support or social welfare and/or relevant and equivalent experience working within a health, education, or youth setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of working with First Nations People and their community.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people, the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.

The base salary is $81k (pro-rata) per annum.
