JOHNSON’S WA is looking for a qualified individual for the position of Fitter-Welder (ANZSCO code 323213):

Annual base salary : $71,136 ($36/hr) plus Superannuation Contributions 

Work location : 19582 Great Southern Highway, Highbury WA 6313

Work hours : 38 ordinary hours per week (permanent, full-time basis) plus any 

additional overtime hours as required.

POSITION PURPOSE

The role of the Mechanical Fitter/Welder is responsible for the repair, fabrication, assembly and installation of mechanical equipment within the feed production facility to maintain efficiency and reliability of production processes. To achieve this, they need a good understanding of the workings of the plant (operate), problem solve, carry out any breakdown maintenance requirements that may arise together with planned preventative maintenance activities.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES - include but not limited to

  1. Welding

  • Examine and interpret plans, blueprints and other written instructions and diagrams to perform project requirements.

  • Conduct assessments and determine appropriate welding equipment or methods based on project requirements.

  • Weld components using manual or semiautomatic equipment in various positions

  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces of filing gaps

  • Perform MIG, TIG, ARC and other types of welding based on project requirements; and

  • Provide estimations to do determine the costs of materials required for construction

  1. Mechanical Fitting

  • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, implementing timely and effective repairs

  • Collaborate with the production team to minimize downtime and improve overall equipment reliability

  • Fabricate, Install, fit, assemble and test new machinery and equipment as needed

  • Work closely with other maintenance professionals to coordinate repairs and upgrades

  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment condition and repairs performed; and

  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, promoting a culture of safety within the workplace

  1. Quality

  • Help in the implementation and continuous improvement of relevant procedures and SOP's.

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures; and

  • Promote continuous improvement activities and culture.

SAFETY

  • Classified as a Worker under the WHS legislation

  • Ensure adherence to all the safety principles and requirements of the Act; and

  • Maintain compliance to company safety management systems

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Preventative maintenance experience

  • Fault diagnostic skills

  • Mechanical hand skills and knowledge; and

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and maintenance data

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting/Welding or a related field

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter/Welder in an industrial setting, preferably within the manufacturing or food production industry

  • Experience with MIG and TIG welding

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and industrial machinery

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals

  • Proficient in using hand and power tools

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance; and

  • Willingness to work flexible hours
