Job description

Based in Katherine NT and reporting to the Senior Forest Performance Officer, the successful candidate will undertake plantation monitoring to identify opportunities to improve stand health and reduce performance-limiting factors impeding forest growth.  

This diverse role considers all aspects of silviculture, including competition management, stand nutrition, pest, disease and beneficial biota dynamics.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the development and management of a national Forest Health program.
  • Assist with identifying and managing aspects limiting forest performance.
  • Make recommendations for forest performance improvements.
  • Develop and apply innovative silviculture methodologies.  
  • Be focused on Integrated Pest Management solutions, making forest pest and disease suppression recommendations. 
  • Manage staff and contractors required to complete various Forest Performance projects.
  • Develop and deliver regular reports and dashboards as required. 

Essential knowledge and skills:

  • Appropriate qualification in Forestry or a related field such as horticulture or agricultural science.
  • Current “C” Class driver’s licence
  • Microsoft Office proficiency 
  • Comprehensive communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

Desirable:

  • Knowledge or experience of Forest/ Horticulture Methodology
  • Knowledge or experience in GIS and database management
  • Knowledge or experience of Sandalwood Plantation Silviculture
