Role Purpose
Aesop are seeking a creative and highly passionate Lead Frontend Engineer to join our high performing Global Engineering function, based in our beautiful and purpose-built head office in Collingwood.
An Engineering Lead at Aesop works within one or more of our independent cross-functional teams. Working closely with our Product Managers along with other functional Leads and individuals, they are jointly responsible for delivering the Product roadmap, while also setting the technical direction and standards within Engineering Teams.
An Engineering Lead is expected to provide coaching to help build and develop the engineers in the team, as well as helping Engineering Managers to set objectives and development paths for the Engineers they work closely with. This is primarily a hands on technical leadership role rather than people manager role, that requires exceptional development skills coupled with pragmatic thinking to achieve optimal business outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
Provide clear direction for “How” a feature is delivered across engineering and solution design to achieve a business outcome.
Develop and use coding standards to ensure deployed code meets our high standards, focusing on creating testable, reusable and robust code.
Ensure the efficient and scalable operations of the product through process development, documentation, and training.
Provide clear direction to team while working on competing priorities, collaborating with product owners and stakeholders to identify pragmatic trade-offs for positive outcomes.
Uphold architecture best practices and code quality within the Engineering team, preventing the introduction of long-term technical debt.
Assess and implement new and better development techniques or tools to improve quality and speed to market.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to guide and refine the requirements and scope of work, contributing to a committed Product roadmap.
Lead the continuous delivery of quality software, focusing on fast feedback and automation to develop capabilities and automate system practice which aims to improve continuous delivery and integration.
Maintain consistency and standards of development work submitted by Aesop vendors operating in the Engineering and Technology wide domain.
Oversee the operationalisation of services delivered as part of the cross-functional team.
Align product technology direction with organisational and function strategy, fostering partnerships with key stakeholders.
What we are looking for :
The successful candidate should have an excellent understanding of all Front-End development elements including:
Strong experience with modern Javascript web application development
Strong understanding of system design and software development best practices
Experience in full life cycle ecommerce solution implementation from conceptualisation, requirements, design and specification through development, QA/debugging, integration testing, deployment and follow up support.
Broad understanding of eCommerce technology tools, providers and trends
Experience in a lead development role in a project or product team is highly preferred. · Clear and considerate communicator with the ability to clearly articulate technical outcomes and the need for them, express robust opinions, and appreciate other points of view.
Possess strong attention to detail, follow up skills, results oriented perspective and understanding of retail industry.
Experience creating maintainable React applications that grow with the business.
Commercial experience with NodeJS and server-side Javascript.
Experience with GraphQL on both the client and server-side.
Commercial experience with SSR / SSG
Solid understanding of test frameworks for CI/CD purposes and release automation.
Humble and honest individual who strives for excellence and challenges the status quo with people, processes, and systems.
Ability to plan for application change with the least disruption to business
Strong commitment to documentation in an asynchronous working and timezone agnostic teams.
