Job description

Permanent and Contract roles available

We are proud to be partnering with a leading paediatric therapy service in the Northwest to recruit for a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner on either a contract or permanent basis. They have proven success as a local regional allied health and mental health provider, which is based on their understanding of the challenges to providing high quality care in remote Western Australia.

They are a multi-disciplinary team who are solutions focused and collaborate creatively to support children with a wide variety of needs. They are a registered NDIS provider and are committed to supporting choice and control.

The role

The Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner will deliver behaviour support services, including behaviour assessments and development of behaviour support plans under the NDIS to strengthen the safeguards for people receiving behaviour support, and to demonstrate a commitment to the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices.

The role includes but is not limited to the following duties:

  • Conduct functional behaviour assessments to determine the purpose of an individual’s behaviour and understand the relationship of events and circumstances that trigger and maintain behaviour
  • Identify current restrictive practices in use by registered NDIS providers, family, carers, teachers and volunteers
  • Develop person-centred, evidence-based positive behaviour support plans based on shared understanding of the person
  • Deliver tailored support and training on the implementation of the positive behaviour support plan to those who are involved with executing and/or monitoring the plan
  • Apply intervention strategies which reduce and/or eliminate the use of restrictive practices
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the support plan
  • Comply with the mandatory NDIS (Restrictive Practices and Behaviour Support) Rules 2018 timeframes for submission of interim and comprehensive behaviour plans
  • Maintain own calendar and client base

What’s in it for you?

In addition to working with a great multi-disciplinary team, you will also receive the following benefits when working with this company:

  • Flexible working arrangements with a 9-day fortnight/rostered days off
  • Paid Professional Development Leave – up to 3 days paid leave (pro-rata)
  • Rural Health West Scholarship available – up to $10,000 per annum, subject to eligibility criteria and acceptance of application
  • Structured clinical supervision, which includes multi-disciplinary training workshops every 6 weeks
  • Professional growth and development
  • Work laptop, mobile phone (during clinic hours) and vehicle to attend appointments
  • Relocation assistance
  • Accommodation support
  • Access to a quality Employee Assistance Program

About you

In order to be considered for the role, you will have at least 2 years experience in a similar role along with:

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology, Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Social Work with relevant registration of AHPRA
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the planning, implementation and evaluation of behaviour and the frameworks underlying Positive Behaviour Support Services
  • Considered suitable by the NDIS Commission to deliver specialist behaviour support as an NDIS behaviour support practitioner as outlined in the PBS capability network
