About the role:
The Future Proof Youth Peer Workerwill assist in the delivery of youth led local bushfire recovery activities as part of the Future Proof Project, which includes 15 partner organisations across Victoria. The role will assist in developing local youth participation and engagement activities to aid disaster recovery work from the 2019/2020 bushfires.
This position is available to people aged 25 years or under.
This position is 60 hours per fortnight (inclusive of 15.2 hours a fortnight of paid study leave)
Essential skills/experience:
- Understanding of the issues important to rural and regional communities, particularly as they relate to young people, in fire and disaster affected areas. Experience in working with communities impacted by natural disaster will be an advantage.
- Experience in design and delivery / facilitation of activities for young people. This could include things like coaching a sports team or running school leadership workshops.
- Willingness to undertake qualifications in youth, community or emergency services as part of the role.
- The ability to develop positive, collaborative working relationships with young people, and other people such colleagues, teachers or community leaders.
- Great organisation and administration skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks.
- Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours when working with diverse young people, and a commitment to Victorian Child Safe Standards, and the Code of Ethical Practice for the Victorian Youth Sector.
This role will require flexibility to work weekend and youth-friendly hours, and you will need to be able to travel independently to events.
