About the serviceBarwon Health's Mental health, Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provides integrated and recovery orientated mental health and drug and alcohol assessment, treatment, harm reduction and community and family support to people of all ages within the Barwon Region currently experiencing, or at risk of experiencing mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues. Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are consumer centred, accessible and family inclusive. About the roleAs guided by the Nurse Unit Manager of the Swanston Centre Acute Inpatient Unit (SCA) and Senior
Peer Workers and utilising your lived experience of caring for someone with mental illness (distress), you will undertake Peer Work with people who are family/carers/supporters of people admitted to the SCA. This will be via individual peer work as well as groups to assist them as they provide to care to someone on a recovery journey. The primary focus is providing support during admission and in the period immediately after discharge. You will collaborate with and be supported by Senior
Peer Workers (carers) in bed-based facilities across the service with a view to sharing resources and promoting carer group with clinical and lived experience teams, and supporting interested carers to attend the sessions.Please note sessions will be conducted at times most convenient for carers and may include weekends and evenings.About the cultureYou will be working within an innovative, passionate multidisciplinary team who are a wealth of knowledge.
