Job description

As the leading visual arts organisation in the Riverina, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery inspires a vibrant, innovative, and diverse regional arts culture: engaging with our local and global communities, supporting artists, and promoting a flourishing and experimental creative environment accessible to all.

We are seeking an experienced individual with qualifications in education, gallery administration or management to work in the Art Gallery as the Gallery Officer, Learning & Engagement.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing, delivering, and leading the education and public engagement program of the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.

  • Permanent, full-time position (38 hours per week).
  • Remuneration package of $3,039.20 gross per fortnight with the opportunity to progress to $3,647.04 gross per fortnight + superannuation (11%).

This position will be responsible to:

  • Research, design and implement the education engagement and outreach program for the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
  • Create educational resources for schools with reference to Gallery programs and NSW Government Visual Arts Syllabus (teacher and classroom notes, kids, and families’ captions, etc).
  • Research, design and implement the Gallery’s public engagement activities program.
  • Create in house and online resources for key exhibitions for Gallery programs.
  • Provide leadership for Gallery staff and volunteers delivering the Gallery’s education, public engagement, and events program.
  • Assist with the promotion and marketing of the Gallery’s program of exhibitions, public engagement and events, and Gallery Collections, by providing written material as required.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of the Gallery’s events program.
  • Be principal point of contact for the Friends of the Gallery in the organisation of fundraising events.
  • Undertake tasks associated with the general operations of the Art Gallery

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role in Education, Gallery Administration or Management.
  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Substantial experience in the development and delivery of education and public engagement activities in the visual arts sector.
  • Experience in developing professional networks with regional schools and educators.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of Contemporary Art, Australian printmaking, Australian studio glass; Australian Indigenous art and culture, and/or experimental media and screen arts (Desirable).
