The Role and our Branch
Northam Residential College is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and organised Gardener.

As a Gardener, the successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining and presenting the college grounds in a safe and tidy state as far as conditions allow, providing students and staff with a safe external learning environment. The successful applicant will be tasked with performing minor repairs and maintenance in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines.
The successful applicant will ideally have good interpersonal and communication skills to maintain accurate gardening records and manage staff performance.

Your written application will be assessed against the following Selection Criteria: * Demonstrates sound communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
  • Demonstrated experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required
