GA 2023)Advertised Vacancy Number: DOE895160This is a permanent full-time position commencing ASAPThe Role and our BranchBroome Residential College is seeking to appoint a Gardener – Handyperson to join their team.We encourage all applicants with diverse professional experiences to apply.The successful applicant will perform basic gardener/handyperson duties and maintain and present the school grounds, gardens and sporting areas in a clean and tidy condition, providing a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. You will maintain tools and horticultural equipment in a serviceable condition and perform minor repairs and maintenance in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines. You will also be expected to monitor and maintain the reticulation systems and the formal and informal sports grounds.The successful applicant will ideally possess good understanding of all aspects of gardening, interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work independently and in a team as well as receive and carry out instructions as required. - Demonstrated experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
- Demonstrated experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.
- A two (2) page statement addressing the selection criteria listed above, in context of the role and business needs of the branch
- A CV of up to two (2) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position

- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required
