Tasmania, southern NSW and other states around Australia and overseas. The RCH is the only provider of heart transplant services and CAR T-cell therapy for paediatrics in Australia. RCH is an effective advocate for patients and their families with a particular focus on vulnerable children and increasingly, mental health in young people. The hospital also supports many health promotion and prevention programs. The Hospital has more than 6,000 staff, a budget of $850M, 12 wards and 350 beds. Annually, the RCH has 300,000+ Specialist Clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries.

The Department of Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition provides a state-wide service for children with a wide range of gastroenterological conditions, transplantation [intestinal and liver] and Clinical Nutrition. There is an active clinical research program with wide ranging collaborations within the hospital and on a national and international level. Our consultant staff also have appointments with the University of Melbourne and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

The role: The purpose of this position is to provide training for physicians wishing to specialise in paediatric gastroenterology. It will include day to day management [inpatient, outpatient and procedures] of a complex case-mix of patients across Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Liver/Intestinal transplantation, and Clinical Nutrition. The position requires participation in an on-call after-hours roster. 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Successfully completion of both written and clinical components of the FRACP in paediatrics or equivalent and have current or be eligible for medical registration in Australia.
  • Previous experience in Paediatric Gastroenterology is preferable. 
  • The Medical Board of Australia (Board) requires all applicants for initial registration to demonstrate English language skills to be suitable for registration. Ie IELTS 7 with a score of 7 in all areas is expected. More information about these tests can be found in the link provided below:


Duration of appointment: 12 months, commencing February 2025.


The number of positions: Three 0.7EFT - 0.8 EFT positions are available.
