We are seeking an experienced and skilled Gateway Engineer to join our team. As a Gateway Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the secure and efficient operation of our network infrastructure. You will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of our systems by monitoring network data streams, detecting and preventing intrusion attempts, and implementing necessary changes to optimize our gateway environments. Additionally, you will provide technical expertise and support to team members, contributing to the overall success of our network security operations.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine housekeeping activities, including correct routing information, backups, file review and archiving, database purging, and other maintenance tasks.
- Configure devices and servers, fine-tuning false positives in accordance with change control, release, and configuration management guidelines.
- Monitor network data streams and event log data to detect, investigate, and prevent intrusion attempts.
- Optimize and maintain gateway environments, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
- Work with both Windows and Linux/UNIX environments, ensuring their smooth operation and security.
- Conduct vulnerability management, advising relevant parties on patches or updated vendor applications.
- Maintain accurate security records and documentation.
- Provide technical advice and guidance on capabilities and technical direction when requested.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for team members, including Gateway Duty Officers.
Skills Set:
- Proficient in network infrastructure, including switches and routers.
- Experience with SNAT/NAT General Firewalls, preferably a combination of Stateful and Layer 7 Firewalls.
- Knowledge of proxies and experience with Solaris or Linux/Unix environments.
- Familiarity with command-line interface commands and concepts.
- Understanding of mail systems, including server setup and maintenance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for network, server, and computer issues, with the ability to perform root cause analysis.
- General understanding of computer and network security policies and enforcement.
- Experience with load balancing.
- Ability to configure and support Apache and manage DNS environments.
- Familiarity with Windows Server and associated domains.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, etc.
Highly Desirable Experience:
- Experience with Splunk and Nagios.
- Knowledge of Windows Server 2012 and 2016, WSUS, and Group Policy.
Security Clearance Requirement:
- NV2 clearance is required.
