The NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service (NSW OTDS) is the state-wide NSW Health agency responsible to save and improve the lives of more Australians through optimising every potential Organ and Tissue Donation for transplantation. Our objectives are to:
- Optimise Organ and Tissue Donation opportunities for transplantation
- Provide specialist support for families involved in the donation process
- Increase consent through registration (on the Australian Organ Donor Registry) and family discussion
- Enhance systems to support donation and transplantation.
What you'll be doing

Act as the principal leader in Donation Services and manage the NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service to deliver a range of strategic and operational services and initiatives across the State.
The role leads the operational accountability for the delivery of high quality services, as well as day to day management of the NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service (OTDS) within allocated resources.
The General Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service, which employs specialist scientific, medical and nursing staff across NSW.
The General Manager coordinates high quality and timely advice to the Ministry of Health and NSW Government about organ donation and Tissue banking and ensures the NSW Tissue Bank meets Commonwealth legislative and policy requirements including:
- Compliance with the Therapeutic Goods Administrations licence including the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice
- Maintenance of a cost model in compliance with the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Rules, Private Health Insurance Act 2007.
The role engages with clinicians and scientists involved in the donation, retrieval, and transplantation sectors to promote Organ and Tissue Donation in line with Australian and NSW Government priorities and develops strategies to embed Organ and Tissue Donation processes within hospitals.

- Demonstrated ability to develop, direct and lead a clinical service or team in the achievement of organisational goals.
- Previous extensive experience in the development, review and evaluation of strategic and business plans.
- Demonstrated conceptual and innovative problem-solving skills for managing conflicting priorities and developing, implementing and monitoring recommendations and advice on policies, strategies and solutions across complex areas.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, verbal and written skills and demonstrated ability to consult, influence, motivate and negotiate effectively to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage human, financial, and physical resources effectively and efficiently to ensure budget and performance targets are met.
- Demonstrated understanding of general policy and governance frameworks of the Health system from a National, State and Local Health District perspective, particularly relating to Organ and Tissue Donation.
- Current driver’s licence with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
