This 300+ bed hospital provides services such as a 24/7 emergency department, surgery, medical, Women’s and Children’s services, rehabilitation, intensive care, and psych as well as extended care into regional services with community-based health programs.

THE POSITION

Our client is seeking multiple experienced General Medicine Registrars for their busy Department.

The General Medicine Registrars are responsible for providing high level of medical care to patients in the Department of Medicine under the supervision and guidance of consultant medical staff.

You will be supervising and advising junior medical staff and students attached the Department of Medicine, all whilst providing clinical and administrative support for medical services undertaken in clinical units of the hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES AND DUTIES

• Provide medical care under the supervision and direction of senior medical staff.
• Document relevant clinical information and in-patient charts accurately, concisely, and legibly.
• Ensure discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed with minimum delay and that all such correspondence is complete prior to leaving the unit.
• Conduct interviews, examinations and the identification of clinical problems including day-to-day review of patients.
• Provide support for junior and senior medical staff as required.
• Assist with case presentations at teaching meetings where necessary.
• Participate in clinical meetings undertaken with in the appropriate clinical unit.
• Participate in after-hours shift roster as required by the Clinical Director, Department of Medicine.
• Assist with teaching junior medical staff and including clinical education and support.
• Participate in continual professional development and medical education.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Full registration, or eligible for registration as a medical practitioner with APRHA.
• Standard Pathway (AMC Part 1 complete) Short-Term Training Pathway (STT) and Competent Authority IMG’s welcome.
• Current experience relevant to the position of General Medicine Registrar. 
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 
• Ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends, nights, and public holidays.
• Proven ‘in charge’ experience.
• Evidence of involvement in continuing professional development.
• Proven ability to apply theoretical knowledge and experience in determining the appropriate clinical diagnosis, investigations, and treatment of patients.
• Proven reliability in work within personal level of expertise and seeking assistance as needed from senior staff. 
• Demonstrated interest in assisting interns and residents to extend their clinical skills and knowledge.
