Form of workMurrabit Group School has a rich history, originating from the amalgamation of small schools in the area back in 1971. Nestled in picturesque surroundings, the school is conveniently located 30km north of Kerang, 21km west of Koondrook-Barham, and just 3km from the scenic Murray River.
Serving a predominantly farming community, with 80% of students commuting by bus, Murrabit Group School enjoys unwavering support from the local Murrabit community. The school provides an individualised learning program where relationships are key, with a current enrolment of 33 students. Our learning environment is calm and inclusive.

In 2024, the school employs 3.2 EFT teachers, including a full-time Principal, two full-time classroom teachers, shared classroom specialist roles, (including Steph Alexander Garden, PE and STEAM) a 0.2 Music/LOTE (Italian) teacher. We provided individualised support through the tutor program online and face to face. The school also has a Business Manager (0.4 EFT) and two Integration Aides (0.8 EFT), resulting in a total of 3 classroom teachers. Students are grouped into three classes for Literacy & Numeracy blocks, point of need whole school spelling, with flexible arrangements within the basic framework of P/1/2, 3/4, and 5/6. We have a 0.4 Mental Health in Schools coordinator to provide student, staff and family support through our whole school wellbeing approach.
The school received a new building in 2013 under the BER umbrella, providing modern facilities with up-to-date technologies. The original 96-year-old two-room school building was retained and refurbished in 2020 through federal and state funding, featuring new cladding, paint, carpet, and vinyl.
The school newly offers an OSHC program, before and after school care for families.
We recognise the importance of a well-rounded education. In addition to our focus on academic achievement, we offer enriching specialist programs in Physical Education, The Arts, and Science. Murrabit Group School offers a comprehensive curriculum supplemented by various programs, including visits from the Mobile Area Resource Centre and Mobile Area Craft Centre, weekly Music and Italian programs, participation in the Murray Plains Cluster for interschool activities, Bike Education and Road Safety, an intensive swimming program, Arts Council productions, the Stephanie Alexander Garden Program, Gr 5/6 Leadership Program, and an engaging camps program for the entire school. The school has also commenced a SRC where student voice and agency are encouraged.
The school's spacious grounds and oval area include an excellent sports stadium, erected in 2018, providing an outstanding all-weather facility. Additionally, the school has a steel structure over the sandpit and a Stephanie Alexander Garden with a portable kitchen for cooking activities. Access to community sporting facilities such as golf, tennis, football, netball, and cricket further enhances the overall experience. The student sport and garden shed has just been upgraded and a new outdoor learning area installed. The concrete playground areas boast colourful new sports and curriculum markings and are surround by vast lawns and native flora. Our refreshed toilet block has a mural depicting local fauna created together with Melbourne Graffiti artists. Our current artwork project includes depicting local indigenous stories with an indigenous artist in partnership with our aboriginal families. Our Active school grant will also look at new sports equipment, bike shed and bikes.
