We are seeking a talented General Surgeon for a leading hospital in WA.

The hospital is a state-of-the-art facility which has recently added a new emergency department and ICU unit, it has about 30,000 general admissions per year.

This is a great lifestyle location with very affordable housing and good schools.

You will be working as a part of the medical department which is made up of other physicians, VMO’s and supporting Medical Officers.

An exciting opportunity exists for a skilled and enthusiastic Consultant Surgeon – General Surgery to join the clinical team in the Kimberley, based at Broome Hospital. You will be a key member of the surgical team, which includes a second Consultant Surgeon, a Service Registrar, Resident Medical Officer and Intern. This is a teaching and supervision position of junior medical staff .

The position is to provide surgical services to clients and patients, this includes provision of a visiting surgical service. Services include surgical consultations, operating, post-operative care and participation in multidisciplinary care of patients. You will be required to spend nights away from home on a on going basis, a shared on call commitment is expected of the successful applicant, along with short periods of outreach within the region, on a regular basis.

Suitable candidates must be eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia AHPRA), possesses relevant qualifications and experience, including specialist qualifications recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). Have demonstrated Laparoscopic skills and Gastrointestinal endoscopy and is competent in colonoscopy and gastroscopy which training recognised by the Conjoint Committee for credentialing of endoscopy. Experienced in surgical management of trauma.

Experience in basic Orthopaedics and have an understanding of Aboriginal Health issues and within a cross cultural of Indigenous health issues is desirable.
