What you'll be doing
The Genetic Counsellor will provide genetic counselling support for the clinical geneticist led general genetics clinic and coordinate and manage Genetic Counsellor led clinics for patients requiring genetic counselling for diagnosed and/or well-defined genetic conditions.
The incumbent will work as an independent clinician in a busy team of counsellors and clinicians.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Must have an undergraduate degree in a non-nursing, non-medical discipline and hold a post graduate qualification in genetic counselling or have attained Part 1 certification in genetics counselling from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia.
- Demonstrated well developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems.
- Commitment to participation in professional development, quality improvement activities and workplace education.
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the provision of genetic counselling services to consumers, carers and families requiring assessment, intervention, appropriate referral and discharge planning.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage workload demands, meet deadlines and complete activities (including ability to work within scope of practice and seek assistance when required).
- Proven ability to exercise professional judgement commensurate with years of experience and to establish effectively collaboratively working relationships within a multi-disciplinary team and inter-agency networks.
