Position Summary
Monash Health is extremely excited to announce a part-time permanent Genetic Counsellor position within its General Genetics Department and the Perinatal Mental Health Unit, located at Monash Medical Centre Clayton.
- You will provide genetic counselling to patients being seen by the Perinatal Mental Health Team, as well as a varied patient group.
This is an exciting new role that will innovate the way psychaitric perinatal genetics is provided. The successful candidate will work with the General Genetics unit managers, and Mental Health Unit Director, to establish this new service and create the scope of this role. The role will involve providing genetic counselling in a range of different scenarios for patients being seen by the Perinatal Mental Health team. They will help to build greater collaborations between Genetics and Mental Health teams. The role may involve Genetic Counselling for other general genetics and prenatal patients as well.
The role is a part-time (0.5EFT, 38 hours per week) ongoing position. This role is for a certified Grade 3 Genetic Counsellor.
About You
You have completed a Master of Genetic Counselling Course, and have completed certification in Genetic Counselling (FHGSA). Ideally you have had some experience with psychiatric genetic counselling. You have a good knowledge and understanding of genetic counselling, including medical, genetic and psychosocial aspects. You have demonstrated clinical placement experience in the provision of genetic counselling. You are able to work independently and as part of a team, and are confident liaising with different departments and establishing a new service. You have excellent written and verbal, English communication skills. You thrive working in a fast paced environment as part of a multidisciplinary team and are a considerate and collaborative team member. You are a proficient computer user, including excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new programs quickly. You will also need to have Australian working rights.
