THE ROLE

Applications are sought from experienced Underground Geology Managers to join the team at Ora Banda.

The responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Liaise closely with other OBM mines’ Geology Managers to share knowledge, collaborate on technical projects, and manage material movement together.
  • Responsible for all Mine Geology aspects of the operation associated with delineation of the orebodies to be mined.
  • Develop and establish departmental systems and protocols for safe, industry best-practice Mine Geology and Grade Control (GC) processes and procedures.
  • Provide technical input and management support for the site management team
  • Provide leadership to the Mine Geology team via a proactive, collaborative approach, living the OBM Values, and fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Embed an industry best-practice approach and ensure Geologists are proficient in wall and backs mapping, face mapping and sampling, data collection, collation, interpretation, and structural geology analysis.
  • Embed an industry best-practice approach and ensure Geologists are proficient in grade control core logging, data collection, collation, interpretation, and structural geology analysis.
  • Liaise closely with the ResDev & Exploration team to transfer the geology knowledge of the deposit and apply it to Mine Geology practices and future underground drill targeting.
  • Liaise closely with the Structural Geology consultant, to ensure a high level of structural geology competency within the team and develop an in-depth geological understanding of the controls of the deposit.
  • Building the Resource base via conversion of Inferred Resources, opportunities for Resource extension, and discovering new ounces outside of Resource.
  • Ensure that geometallurgical factors are understood via a GC sampling regime, and integration of assumed recovery factors into geology models for mine planning & processing blend plans.
  • Effective contractor management of underground diamond drillers by fostering a culture of open communication and teamwork.
  • Daily production and stockpile tracking to ensure a quality product is delivered to the Processing Plant, and communication with the other Geology Managers, Processing and Haulage teams to ensure adequate feed and blend and geometallurgical influences are communicated.
  • Work in close liaison with the underground mining team to de-risk the LOM and 3-month schedule through stope risk assessments, GC drill schedule embedded in the mine plan, and effective GC drill designs.
  • Monitoring quality standards via mine-to-mill reconciliations, compliance to annual business plan, explaining variances monthly and implementing corrective actions.
  • Professional development plans for the Geology team, focussing on “on-the-job” training, coaching, mentoring and some formal courses.
  • Performance reviews of Mine Geology staff, to support the OBM Values, high-performance culture, and hold personnel to account by utilising HR systems.
  • Manage the Mine Geology inputs, and GC modelling processes for underground long-term planning, projects evaluation and development.
  • Liaise with the Principal Resource Geologists for Resource/Reserve updates, ensuring quality geology data and interpretation/wireframing.
  • Preparation of operational annual budget preparation including physicals and financials and resources
  • Prepare technical reports as required.
ABOUT YOU
To be considered for the role, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:  
  • Tertiary qualification in geology
  • Significant operational experience (underground gold projects)
  • Awareness of the WHS Act & Regulations
  • Class C WA manual driver’s licence
  • Skilled in 3D software – Micromine, Leapfrog
  • Member of AIG or AusIMM or similar
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate
