Geotechnical Engineer | Fifo

We are currently looking for Geotechnical Engineer, this site-based opportunity will be working FIFO on an 8/6 roster from Perth.

Role description

• Duration: 6-12 months contract
• Commodity Type: Open-Cut Pit, Iron Ore Mining
• Starting date: First week of May 2024
• The role is FIFO from Perth (Wed-Wed) on an 8/6 roster to the Pilbara, WA. Working shift is 12 hours/day.

You will report to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer; you will offer Geotechnical Engineering recommendations, enabling safe execution of mine plans.

The critical tasks for the role include:

• Day-to-day pit inspections and recommendations
• Slope monitoring and performance reviews (slope stability radars, prisms, inSAR)
• Complete geotechnical design reviews and provide recommendations (pit slope and dump)
• Geotechnical hazard management through critical control verifications and monthly audits
• Geotechnical input to mine operations and drill and blasting processes.
• Focus on delivering value, clear decision-making skills, technical excellence, and strong collaboration skills.

Role requirements

• Permit to work in Western Australia
• Australian Drivers Licence
• National Police Clearance
• A tertiary qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or similar is preferred.
• Extensive open pit mining experience.
• Geotechnical design knowledge with demonstrable ability in both characterisation and stability analysis.
• Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders.
• Well-developed report writing skills.
• Strong data management and manipulation skills are essential.
