The Royal Hobart Hospital is the State’s tertiary referral centre and is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state. The Department of Geriatric Medicine has Staff Specialists with a range of clinical, teaching and research interests and experience. This is a supportive, coherent and highly functioning team which is motivated to meet the service needs of our community and to promote education and innovation in Geriatric Care. The Department is actively involved in clinical redesign to improve the older person’s journey within our organisation and is involved in interstate research collaborations in Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. We participate in monthly regional outreach clinical services.

The Facility:
This is Australia's second oldest hospital opening in 1804, and is a major clinical teaching and research centre working closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. The hospital provides acute, sub acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services to a population of about 240,000 people and has 550 physical beds, including 460 acute overnight and 90 day beds.
