About the roles
We are looking to recruit Government Lawyers for our Commonwealth government clients across various specialisations, including commercial law, employment law, and civil litigation. Multiple positions are available at the APS6 and EL1 level, but high-performing APS5s may also be considered.
An initial 6-month non-ongoing APS contract is on offer, with possible extension. Alternatively, a section 26 transfer may be available for ongoing APS employees.
Roles are available across national capital cities, with a preference for those located in Canberra.
Please note: only Australian citizens with the ability to obtain/maintain a Baseline clearance can be considered for these roles. Successful candidates with an existing security clearance will be able to commence in the roles sooner.
Duties:
- Providing legal advice relevant to the position. The advice may be on high profile, complex, technical or sensitive issues and focus on delivering accurate legal analysis, options and recommendations, and the strategic management and assessment of legal risks.
- Providing and managing legal services in accordance with the Legal Services Directions 2017.
- Representing the Department's interests and positions during liaison and negotiation with external stakeholders.
- Maintaining detailed knowledge of specific legislation, case law, directions, instruments, principles and issues of relevance to the Department.
- Providing legal clearance, mentoring and professional support to other legal professionals.
Requisite skills/experience:
- Demonstrated experience in commercial law, employment law, and/or civil litigation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Legal advice writing and research skills
- An ability to work effectively with stakeholders
Essential qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in law and admission as a legal practitioner
- Practising Certificate or eligibility to attain one
