About us
Wouldn’t it be great to be part of a team actively working to reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact, and (if we’re lucky) save humanity from itself before we reach climate tipping points? OK so we may be taking dramatic liberties to get your attention, but if you believe Global Warming is “fake news” you should probably skip this post, stay comfortable in your house watching TV or the latest TikTok trend – and invest in an aircon because it’s about to get hotter out there. But if you want to be part of the solution, and work with like-minded people committed to making a difference, then Sicona Battery Technologies is the place for you, and we want you with us!
But how is Sicona making a difference? Well, we’re glad you asked. We’re innovating in an ecosystem that drives the adoption of new sustainable technology. We develop next generation battery materials technology used in the anodes of lithium-ion batteries that enable electric-mobility and storage of renewable energy. Through our technology we could enable the production of batteries that have a higher capacity, last longer and charge faster. Check out our website to find out more about how awesome our work is: https://siconabattery.com.
At Sicona you won’t be just a number or treated like a cog in a machine, we care about our team and actively work on creating a good culture. Sound exciting, you still with us? Then keep on reading to find out how you’ll be contributing to Sicona’s vision!
About the opportunity
We’re looking for an innovative, dynamic, and passionate Laboratory Technician to join our growing team. As an entry level role, no previous formal work experience is required.
You would be responsible for:
- Synthesis, process, and characterisation of lithium-ion battery materials
- Fabricating lithium-ion battery electrodes and cells
- Assembly of coin and pouch cells
- Writing reports and managing lab consumables inventory
What you will need is:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, material sciences, physics or other physical sciences.
- A passion for science and a drive to be involved in accelerating the transition to a fully electrified and sustainable world. • Understanding of unitary rates (conversion from mols to grams, etc.), good volumetric technique (serial dilutions, titrations, etc.), and materials handling (powder handling, quantitative transfer, balance use, etc.).
- Experience with working in a lab and with analytical techniques and instruments (e.g., x-ray diffraction, particle size distribution analysis, tapped density measurement, inorganic chemical analysis such as atomic absorption spectroscopy or inductively-coupled plasma mass spectroscopy, BET surface area analysis, and electron microscopy)
- Knowledge of safe laboratory practices and procedures
- A strong attention to detail and exploratory mindset - after all, most discoveries are accompanied by someone saying “huh, that’s weird” rather than “eureka!”
Advantageous / Preferred
- Previous work experience in conducting research (academic or industry) in electrochemistry, high temperature synthesis, or batteries.
- Experience in high temperature synthesis, fabricating batteries/electrochemical devices, or making thin film coatings is advantageous.
- Knowledge of lithium-ion battery operations and the properties of lithium-ion battery electrode materials is advantageous.
