Grid Connection Manager

Reporting to the GM Business Development and GM Commercial Development, you will play a key role supporting across RAC by securing Grid Connection, support construction and commissioning and optimising grid related aspects of RAC’s new developments and existing generation fleet. In particular, your technical understanding and expertise will be required to secure optimal Grid Connection outcomes for RAC.

The diverse portfolio offers a wide range of projects types across the NEM and WEM along with a strong appetite to grow and deliver new and innovative projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Full project-cycle management of the Grid Connection process for generators including wind farms, solar farms & Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Gas Open Cycle or Combined Cycle Power Plant; from initial concept to execution & implementation of Connection Agreements
  
• Scope out Grid Connection actions and deliverables, managing them throughout the connection process, in conjunction with external technical specialists and relevant regulatory stakeholders
• Manage technical & commercial negotiations with AEMO & NSPs on Grid Connection contract documentation, with a focus on achieving optimum project outcomes with schedule and budget
• Support the review of power systems studies, including Grid Connection, system strength impact assessments etc, including experience with PSS/E, PSCAD and PowerFactory.
• Work with the project team to identify & assess connection feasibility of proposed development assets to gauge new project opportunities
• Engage with internal and external teams to develop and communicate solutions to complex connection issues
• Participate in the preparation of technical tender documentation for the assignment of construction contracts and suppliers
• Work with internal teams when required in all aspects of Financial Close, including due diligence, project analysis, and managing internal approvals for successful delivery in a timely manner
• Expand & maintain existing network of contacts and information sources to ensure timely access to information on evolution of the grid network and the connection process to facilitate the company’s growth objectives
• Support the design of HV/MV interconnection activities
• Extended travel to sites may be required at various parts of the project life cycle

Your Background

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering or related business discipline
• 7+ years’ experience in NEM / WEM Grid Connections

• Effective working knowledge of AEMO GPS Standards & National Electricity Rules
• Applied working knowledge of Transmission Power System engineering, and relevant power system software packages such as PSS/E, PSCAD and PowerFactory
• Good communication skills with the ability to manage multiple internal & external stakeholders, particularly OEMs, consultants, AEMO, TNSPs & DNSPs.
