The Opportunity

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Grid Connections Engineer to join our team in Sydney or Melbourne on a full-time/permanent basis.

Reporting to the Head of Grid Connections, you will be responsible for managing the connections process for on-grid and off-grid power generation and energy storage projects including thermal generation, renewable and energy storage systems and any load connections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various power systems studies including dynamic and static simulations on SMIB and MMIB cases in PSSE, PSCAD and PowerFactory 
  • Maintain relationships with OEMs, AEMO, Grid Consultants and the Network Service Providers (NSPs).
  • Coordinate and manage the end-to-end Grid Connections process from early-stage connection concepts through to R2 completion.  
  • Work closely with the Energy Solutions and Infrastructure Delivery teams to ensure that connection progresses in accordance with the project development and delivery schedule.
  • Ability to run power system studies independently and in alignment with project needs.

Your background 

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering admitting to corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia or equivalent experience (Mandatory)
  • Hands on experience in PSSE, PSCAD and Pwer Factory
  • Experience in power quality assessment (desirable, but not necessary)
  • RPEQ, RPEV, RPEng certification (desirable)
  • Extensive experience in the power generation and renewable energy sectors
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian codes and statutory requirements

The Infrastructure Engineering - Power team forms part of the Infrastructure Delivery division in APA, responsible for development and delivery of growth power projects across Australia.

With a strong pipeline of power projects, both on-grid and off-grid, the recently established Infrastructure Engineering – Power team is experiencing rapid growth. We are actively seeking new talent to complement our existing cadre of multi-disciplinary engineers. 

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Australia’s energy transition by supporting development and delivery of power generation projects, utilising wind, solar, battery and thermal technologies.
