Northern Star Resources has a great opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join the Corporate Team in a permanent role. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, your primary role is to lead the Health and Safety strategy and culture for the organisation across all operations, maintaining adherence to legislative requirements and supporting continuous improvement. Key Tasks Lead the development and sustenance of a positive team safety culture. Ensure that the team complies with all legislative requirements and continually develop the Safety Management System (SMS) to remain relevant to all Stakeholders. Provide continuous support, guidance and direction to employees and contractors for all safety and health requirements. Facilitate regular internal and external audits to validate SMS effectiveness. Set and monitor targets and appropriate team key performance indicators to improve safety performance. Generate team reporting to benchmark performance with analysis of trends. Advise the business on improvement opportunities and assist in the development of strategies regarding Health and Safety initiatives Oversee serious incident investigations to ensure adequate quality and remedial actions are appropriate and implemented. Proactive involvement with continuous Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) improvement processes. Promote and adhere to all safety requirements across the Company in compliance with all statutory regulations. Display a clear commitment to safety and health and seek to eliminate or control the risks of injury and/or damage to equipment. Key Requirements Recognised tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) or a related discipline. Lead Auditor Qualifications (desirable). Sound understanding of barrier/failed defence type risk management processes (iCAM/ Bow Tie). St John Senior First Aid certificate. Current “C” Class Western Australian Driver’s Licence. Desired Experience & Competencies Significant experience in WHS, including experience in leadership roles in a mining environment, preferably underground. Knowledge in the development and implementation of safety programs and recognised safety management systems. Demonstrated experience in WHS systems auditing. Experience in site safety management and improvement plan development, implementation and measurement. Demonstrated experience in medical and emergency response coordination. Demonstrated capacity to lead investigative teams and apply root cause analysis tools. Good understanding of Risk Management tools and risk mitigation strategies. Excellent report writing and oral/written communication skills. Demonstrated experience in managing change. Experience in managing department costs and budgeting. Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas. High level understanding of all relevant legislation and associated standards affecting the Health and safety of persons in the mining industry throughout Australia Identify specific areas for cost improvement and ensure the development and implementation of action plans to achieve these gains. Experience in the use and maintenance of an SMS database. Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
