Grower Nursery Hand - Wholesale Production Nursery

Ball Australia is a wholesale young plant nursery operating from custom built facilities in Skye, in the outer suburbs of Melbourne.  The nursery produces starter plants and seedlings which are then shipped Australia wide. 

We are looking for a hands-on Grower Nursery Hand who is looking for an exciting full-time career at Ball Australia. The successful applicant would ideally have some growing knowledge; and skills that can be easily transferred to a Production Nursery. We also consider applicants who have no formal education or experience but who have a desire to learn from one of the leading horticultural companies in the industry.  

Reporting to the Head Grower, the role encompasses the day to day growing activities, working as part of the growing team.  We have a very large range of products which in turn creates a complex growing environment. 

The hours of the role may vary with the needs of the product and the ability to work the weekend watering roster is a necessity.

Responsibilities of the role:

• Crop fertigation management.
• Crop protection (IPM) activities (spraying/cleaning).
• Crop movement between growing areas and sorting.
• Be part of the weekend/out of hours watering/spraying roster.  

Skills and experience

• Previous plug production experience would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of disease and pest management as well as crop nutrition would be advantageous.
• Qualifications in horticulture, science or similar would be highly regarded.  
• Have sound analytical skills, can help solve problems and a positive attitude. 
• Someone who is highly self-motivated and works well in a team environment as well as individually.
• Attention to detail and a high level of initiative.
• A love of plants and a desire to join a market leader in the horticulture industry.
