A great opportunity for a passionate worker located in northeast Tasmania, or willing to locate, to join Huon’s Springfield Hatchery as a Hatchery Technician.
The role
As part of a small hands-on team, you will play an integral part in supporting Springfield Hatchery operations and maintaining the welfare of our fish to a high standard. Your responsibilities include:
- Undertaking routine checks and advising the manager on site of any adjustments required to maintain high standards of fish welfare.
- Conducting routine maintenance on all equipment.
- Performing routine water quality system monitoring and coordinating water samples.
- Flushing water systems and cleaning tanks.
- Feeding fish and conducting weight checks and fish sampling to monitor and screen fish performance.
- Spawning of fish and assisting in breeding program.
- Vaccinating and grading.
This opportunity is a full-time position, operating on a 7 day on, 7 day off roster. You are required to participate in regular overnight shifts.
About you
- You ideally have a combination of practical fish husbandry experience and a qualification in Aquaculture or related field, or a basic understanding of fish biology and water chemistry.
- You have a current and valid drivers’ licence and First Aid certificate.
- You have a current and valid Forklift licence and Confined Space/Working at Heights licence.
- You are enthusiastic and self-motivated with a positive attitude, willing to work in all environments and conditions.
- You are an excellent communicator with the ability to work effectively autonomously and within a small team.
- You can undertake the physically demanding requirements of this role in a safe manner.
- You have a keen eye for detail and a proactive focus on continually looking to improve processes.
