Huon’s Millybrook Hatchery has an exciting career opportunity for a hardworking, self-motivated individual looking to join the Huon team. If you are located in northeast Tasmania, passionate about aquaculture and looking for a full-time position, this Hatchery Technician position is perfect for you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As part of a small hands-on team, you will play an integral part in supporting Millybrook Hatchery operations and maintaining the welfare of our fish to a high standard. You will:
- Undertake routine checks of the aquatic life support systems and report/remediate any adjustments required to maintain high standards of fish welfare.
- Conduct routine maintenance on all equipment and monitor water quality systems.
- Feed fish and conduct weight checks and fish sampling to monitor and screen fish performance.
- Vaccinate and grade the fish.
- Perform general assorted farm duties as required.
This opportunity is a full-time position, operating on a 7 day on, 7 day off roster. You are required to participate in regular paid overnight shifts.
ABOUT MILLYBROOK HATCHERY
Located in picturesque Upper Esk, 60 minutes west of St Helens or 60 minutes east of Launceston, the Millybrook Hatchery is one of Huon Aquaculture’s on growing sites that nurture fry and parr into smolt for transport to our open water cages.
ABOUT YOU
- You have a current and valid driver’s licence.
- You are enthusiastic and self-motivated with a positive attitude, willing to work in all environments and conditions.
- You are an excellent communicator with the ability to work effectively autonomously and within a small team.
- You have a keen eye for detail and a proactive focus on continually looking to improve processes.
- You have intermediate computer skills.
This is an entry level position, however the following is looked upon favourably:
- You ideally have a combination of practical fish husbandry experience and a qualification in Aquaculture or related field, or a basic understanding of fish biology and water chemistry.
- You have a current First Aid certificate.
- You have a current Confined Space/Working at Heights licence.
